- Studied mechanical engineering at the TU (Technical University) Claustal-Zellerfeld and at the TU Braunschweig.

- He attained his PhD was  at the University of Kiel in the field of energy, drive-technology and agricultural technology.

- Previous work includes working at several research institutions, including research areas such as fluid dynamics (aerodynamics).

- Dr. Schwieger also spent ten years as the manager of the research and development department of a leading north-German engineering company. Among others, his tasks there included the development of specialized machines with high-performance, computer controlled drive systems designed for use in particularly demanding environments.
